L-3 Telemetry-East Provides C-Band Upgrade Kits for U.S. Air Force’s Fielded Telemetry Ground Receivers

L-3 Telemetry-East (L-3 TE), a division of L-3 Communications, announced today that it has been awarded an indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity (ID/IQ) contract to upgrade fielded telemetry ground receivers to incorporate the C-Band spectrum for the U.S. Air Force.

Over the past two years, engineers at Edwards AFB and L-3 TE have been testing a down-conversion scheme ensuring optimum functionality with no degradation to existing performance. Edwards AFB recently added the C-Band frequencies and recommended a down-conversion scheme to the IRIG (Inter Range Instrumentation Group) Telemetry Standards. IRIG 106 is scheduled to be published in the next few months and is expected to define a scheme that uses TE’s architecture to ensure interoperability in aeronautical telemetry applications at member missile ranges. Once the document is published, L-3 TE plans to announce it has an IRIG standard method for handling C-Band down-conversion for ground receivers used throughout the world.

“This represents another successful Edwards AFB and L-3 partnership to provide the most cost effective technical solution for the U.S. Air Force,” said Terry Hamilton, L-3 TE’s vice president of Ground & Telecommunications Products.
